About: JJ Carr, Your Friendly Neighborhood Ghost (writer)
I’ve been a ghost for a long time.
I’ve slipped into many different lives.
I’ve helped people tell their stories by crafting their stories into an entire book
or by guiding them on how to shape their project through developmental edits.
I don’t take lightly that I am a custodian of your story. I can write what is too painful to put into words, and I can craft the scenes to let readers step into your shoes for a couple hundred pages.
So far, I have ghostwritten 19 books including memoir, educational, general nonfiction, fiction, middle grade, and even a cookbook. I have written for people who have gone on to win national-level awards for their books, and I have written for people who have gone the self-publishing route.
Why write a book?
As humans, we are conditioned to be storytellers. We’ve grown up listening to stories and telling our own.Sometimes, we know we have a story that needs to be out in the world. But putting it together as a story can be daunting.Questions and doubts abound: Will anyone care? Will anyone hear me?And I want to help you get your story told. Whether it’s your fish tale, a family story, memoir, or fiction idea, storytelling remains your most powerful tool for connection. So many stories are left untold, and when that happens, the world loses lessons to be learned or understanding to be gleaned. What did it mean to do this amazing thing you did? How were you transformed? Think of your own favorite book or books and the ways in which those stories transformed you — I’m here to help you do that for others. I took this image of what remains of the last of the San Pedro fishing fleet, of which my grandfather and great-grandfather were a part. I understand what it means to want to keep these stories alive.
